Congratulations Lady Titans! 3rd Place at State.

Updated May 7, 2020

Dear Cambridge School District Parents,

This has been one crazy end to our school year. I appreciate your understanding, flexibility, and willingness to help foster learning from your home rather than our schools. This was an unprecedented situation that no district could have foreseen and been prepared for. I believe that our teachers have done an amazing job and really have shown that they have the best interest of our students in mind in everything they do. I had the opportunity to sit in many Zoom class sessions and was amazed time and time again by the involvement and deep thinking our students were continuing to do from home.

The week of May 11th to May 14th will be our last week of new instruction.  Teachers may hold class meetings on May 18th, dependent on the needs of their specific classes.  The week of the 18th will be used to make sure students get their assignments and requirements in to teachers, giving teachers enough time to finalize grades.

Personal Item Pick-Up

The elementary teachers have begun packing up student items.  Elementary teachers will contact you on when items area available and how to get them.

Secondary students will be able to come into the school (as families or 1 at a time) during the following schedule:

         Wednesday, May 20th, 1:00 – 5:00

         Thursday, May 21st, 4:00 – 6:30

If you do not believe you, or your child, can make it during one of these scheduled times, please contact Mr. Butler to set up an appointment.

Device Return

Many students have devices from the school.  We need all of these back prior to the end of the school year.

Elementary Devices – These can be turned in starting Monday, May 18th via bus routes or in the cafeteria when meals are being distributed (9:00 – 11:00).

Secondary Devices – These can be returned starting May 19th via bus routes or in the cafeteria when meals are being distributed (9:00 – 11:00) or, when you pick up your personal items on the 20th or 21st.

Students are expected to “attend” class just as if school was still in session. This looks differently for each class, but the basic expectation is grades 6-12 meeting from 9:00 – 1:00 regularly and pre-k to 5 meeting at specific times daily.

It is the expectation of administration that students will be present during each live class meeting. If there are extenuating circumstances, we will be understanding, but our teachers are preparing daily lessons so that our students miss out on the least amount of learning possible. Cambridge School District and all its employees take pride in educating students, and we plan to continue that superior education, even in the midst of this unprecedented soft closure.

For grades 6-12, students are expected to complete daily work by 4:00 p.m. unless otherwise specified by the teacher. If work is not completed, or is completed late, the student’s grade may be effected.

Benefits of Our Current Situation

As a district, we believe that learning can take place from every situation and appreciate certain soft skills that our students are learning through this soft closure.

  • Doing the right thing even when no one is watching

  • Showing up to classes even when students could make decisions to do other things.

  • Showing some persistence and perseverance and pushing through a really difficult time to show resilience.

  • Being accountable when it would be easier to not be accountable.

Free Wi-Fi Locations

Wi-Fi can be accessed at the high school in the large parking lot outside the teacher work room and in the small parking lot outside the library.  CTC has also added Wi-Fi for student access at the Cambridge Community Library and the front of their phone office.  When accessing these hotspots, please remember to follow social distancing protocols.

Meal Services

Breakfast and lunch is available for free to any child ages 1-18 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  This can be picked up at the elementary cafeteria or along the normal bus routes.  If you do not know what time the bus will be at your nearest bus stop, please contact Mr. Butler and he will have the bus driver contact you.

Work Pickup Schedule

Every Monday, the food delivery bus will be handing out new packets (when applicable) and picking up completed work.  If you are not along the bus route, you may return your work to the elementary cafeteria during normal meal pick-up times.  We also have a homework drop off box located on the handicap ramp near the front door of the elementary school.  This can be accessed 24/7 to fit your schedule.

Please remember that good hygiene practices are the best way to slow the spread of contagious illnesses.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water

  • Use hand sanitizers when available

  • Keep your hands away from eyes, mouth, and nose

  • Cough and sneeze into your arm rather than into hands or out in the open

  • Avoid unnecessary physical contact (handshakes, holding hands, hugs, etc…)

If you need to contact Mr. Butler, please email, call, or text.

If you need to contact Mrs. Vowell, please email, call, or text.

Thank you,
